Following Imran Khan’s arrest on Tuesday, the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) called on the nation to come out on the streets.
“People, come out of their homes, Islamabad High Court has been attacked, Imran Khan’s arrest is equivalent to shutting down the judiciary,” former Information Minister Fawad Chaudhry articulated in a tweet.
In a PTI official account post, the party urged members that “if you abstain from defending your nation today, the present spectacle will persist for years hence.”
Simultaneously, Fawad asserted Imran’s abduction from the court premises, indicating numerous lawyers and ordinary individuals sustained injuries.
“Imran Khan has been whisked away by unknown people to an unknown location, Chief Justice Islamabad High Court has ordered Security interior and Inspector General of police to appear within 15 minutes in the court,” Fawad added.
The erstwhile prime minister was seized by law enforcement in the Al-Qadir Trust case, outside the Islamabad High Court, as he endeavored to procure bail in multiple cases.
A Reuters onlooker reported that shortly after Imran’s entrance into the IHC gate, paramilitary forces and armored personnel carriers trailed him.
Armored vehicles barricaded the gate while the PTI chief was spirited away under formidable security, the witness added.
PTI leader Musarrat Cheema, in a Twitter video message, declared, “they are maltreating Imran Khan and assaulting Khan sahib.”
“They have inflicted something upon Khan sahib,” she proclaimed.
‘Ready for Jail’
Prior to his court appearance, the PTI chief, in a video message, expressed the superfluous nature of summoning a substantial police and official contingent for his court visit in Islamabad.
“Should a warrant exist, approach me directly; I am primed for imprisonment. Expenditure is excessive as if a notorious criminal arrives in Islamabad. Spare us the theatrics and furnish the warrant forthwith,” he articulated.
He affirmed his mental preparedness for incarceration.
In a tweet, Imran insinuated that the coalition government seeks to detain him to thwart his election campaigning and impede his efforts in “galvanizing the masses for a street movement supporting the Constitution if the PDM government and their handlers rebuff the SC (Supreme Court) and infringe upon the Constitution regarding election execution.”
The matter of elections has been disputatious, with PTI demanding immediate polls in Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, where assemblies have been disbanded.
