Cement sales in Pakistan experienced a significant growth of 19.41 percent in May 2023. In May, the total cement sales amounted to 3.966 million tons, surpassing the previous fiscal year’s figure of 3.321 million tons for the same month.

Data released by the All Pakistan Cement Manufacturers Association reveals that local cement shipments by the industry in May 2023 amounted to 3.433 million tons, compared to 3.150 million tons in May 2022, marking an increase of 9.01 percent.

The export despatches also saw a remarkable surge of 210.13 percent, with volumes rising from 171,915 tons in May 2022 to 533,155 tons in May 2023.

In May 2023, cement mills located in the northern region dispatched 2.880 million tons of cement, indicating a growth of 8.85 percent compared to the 2.646 million tons dispatched in May 2022. On the other hand, cement mills in the southern region dispatched 1.086 million tons of cement during May 2023, which represented a substantial increase of 60.77 percent compared to the 0.676 million tons dispatched in May 2022.

Domestically, the northern region’s cement mills dispatched 2.768 million tons of cement in May 2023, reflecting a growth of 7.58 percent compared to the 2.573 million tons dispatched in May 2022. In the southern region, 664,891 tons of cement were dispatched in the local market during May 2023, showing a 15.36 percent increase compared to the 576,385 tons dispatched in May 2022.

Exports from the northern region’s mills experienced a significant increase of 53.83 percent, with quantities rising from 72,450 tons in May 2022 to 111,451 tons in May 2023. Similarly, exports from the southern region also surged by 323.97 percent, reaching 421,704 tons in May 2023, compared to 99,465 tons during the same month last year.

In the initial eleven months of the current fiscal year, the total shipments of cement, encompassing both domestic and exports, stood at 40.518 million tons. This indicates a decrease of 14.93 percent compared to the 47.627 million tons dispatched during the corresponding period in the previous fiscal year.

During this period, domestic shipments amounted to 36.528 million tons, experiencing a decline of 14.36 percent from the 42.655 million tons recorded in the same period last year.

Furthermore, export despatches witnessed a decline of 19.76 percent, with volumes decreasing to 3.990 million tons in the first eleven months of the current fiscal year, in contrast to the 4.972 million tons exported during the same period in the previous fiscal year.

The northern region’s mills dispatched 29.925 million tons of cement domestically during the first eleven months of the current fiscal year, reflecting a reduction of 15.27 percent from the cement despatches of 35.316 million tons during July-May 2022.

Exports from the northern region increased by 19.69 percent, reaching 974,126 tons during July-May 2023, compared to 813,902 tons exported during the same period last year. The overall shipments from mills situated in the northern region witnessed a decline of 14.48 percent, reaching 30.899 million tons during the initial eleven months of the current financial year. This figure reflects a decrease from the 36.130 million tons recorded in the corresponding period of the previous financial year.

Domestic despatches by southern region’s mills during July-May 2023 amounted to 6.603 million tons, representing a reduction of 10.03 percent compared to the 7.339 million tons of cement dispatched during the same period of the previous fiscal year.

Exports from the southern region also experienced a decline of 27.48 percent, with quantities reducing to 3.015 million tons during July-May 2023, compared to 4.158 million tons exported during the same period last year. Total despatches by mills with southern sites declined by 16.34% to 9.619 million tonnes during the first eleven months of the current fiscal year, from 11.497 million tonnes the previous fiscal year.
